Gonna Do My Best was one of 12 songs in the running to represent the UK at the 1980 Eurovision Song Contest and finished in 12th and last place at the 'A Song For Europe' national selection show held at BBC TV Studios in London on March 26th, hosted by Terry Wogan and broadcast live on BBC1. The winning song was to be decided by the votes of 14 regional juries but since there was a tie for first place at the end of the voting each jury then had to pick their favourite between the two joint winners, Happy Everything by Maggie Moone and Prima Donna. Love Enough For Two by Prima Donna was eventually chosen with 8 regional jury votes over 6 for Happy Everything. Despite ending in last place, group member Cheryl Baker bounced back one year later to win the UK national final and then the Eurovision itself as a member of Bucks Fizz.
