S A F is Anglo-French brother-sister duo Marianne Elise and Eat Gas and the release of new single “Fast” coincides with newly announced tour dates with electro/trip-hop/post-rock legends Archive, including two massive dates at the famed Zenith in Paris. But the ties with Archive don’t end there; Archive’s Darius Keeler worked with duo on their debut EP earlier this year.

Innovative and pristine production work combines with simple but classic pop songwriting smarts to create this evocative and fragile delight.

There is definitely commonality with Archive and in particular their stunning new album with vocalist Holly Martin (read our review of the single “Hatchet”). A low mixed electronic drum loop acts to push the song forward while delicate and sparing piano chords rest atop allowing the emotive vocals of Marianne Elise to carry the song.

The structure is a simple one working with repetition and increasing emotion rather than a leap in key change. “Fast” starts off soft and intimate but builds with fragility and tension climaxing around 2:35 with a bed of delayed guitar noise accentuate the weight of emotion.

A melancholic and beautiful number; expect to hear “Fast” on your radio soon and of course a lot more from S A F.

“Fast” will be available digitally via iTunes on 12 November and includes a remix of the song by Archive themselves.
